Bringing a piece of the farm home with you is one of the best parts of the Sequim summer. To ensure you get the best bouquet (and the bees stay happy!), we’ve put together this simple guide to u-pick etiquette at B&B Family Lavender Farm.
1. Check-In & Gear Up at the Shoppe Start your visit at our Farm Shoppe. We’ll provide your complete U-Pick kit: a harvesting basket, specialized safety scissors (designed to be easy for seniors and safe for little hands), and your heavy-duty ziptie. Our team will give you a brief, 30-second “pro-tip” orientation to show you exactly where to snip and which of our 16+ varieties are peaking today.
2.Your bundle price is just $8. The rule is simple: if you can close the ziptie around the stems, the bouquet is yours! Don’t be afraid to fill it up—our zipties typically hold a massive 200 to 250 stems. It’s a fun, family-friendly challenge to see just how much purple you can fit into one bundle.
3. Mix, Match & Explore Don’t feel limited to just one row! You are welcome to wander the farm and mix different colors and scents within your single ziptie bundle. Whether you want the deep purple of Royal Velvet or the tall, fragrant spikes of Grosso, the choice is yours.

Is the sun getting high or are the little ones getting restless? > To fill your $8 ziptie bundle faster, try the “Handful Method.” Instead of snipping one stem at a time, gently grasp a small bunch (about 5–10 stems) in one hand and make a single, clean snip with your safety scissors just above the wood. You’ll fill your bundle in half the time, and the kids will love seeing the bouquet grow so quickly!
To keep our plants healthy and your bouquet beautiful, remember the “Above the Wood” rule:
Look for the Green: Only cut the flexible green stems.
Avoid the Brown: Never cut into the woody, brown base of the plant. This protects the lavender so it can bloom again next year!
The Snip: Aim for 2–3 inches above the woody part to ensure your stems are long enough to be secured by your ziptie.
You will see plenty of bees! They are very docile and focused on the nectar. We teach kids that the bees are our “farm friends”—if you don’t pet them, they won’t bother you. Tip: Wear closed-toe shoes just in case you accidentally step near one!
Please stay on the grass paths. Jumping over rows can damage the delicate root systems and irrigation lines.
Yes! With our safety scissors and wide rows, we encourage kids to get involved. It’s a great sensory experience for them to touch and smell the different varieties.
A lot more than you’d think! Our heavy-duty zipties are surprisingly roomy. A typical $8 bundle holds between 200–250 stems, depending on the variety you choose. That is enough to fill a large decorative vase, create several dozen dried sachets, or even craft a full-sized lavender wreath!
Absolutely! We want you to relax and enjoy the scenery at your own pace. You’ll find benches placed throughout the farm fields, perfect for a quiet moment among the lavender. We also offer shaded areas near the Barn and Shoppe where you can escape the sun, enjoy a cool breeze, and watch the farm activity while your family finishes their picking.
